CAMPBELL RIVER — A pilot was killed in a helicopter crash near Sayward, north of Campbell River.

A news release from Island District RCMP stated Sayward RCMP were informed on Wednesday, April 6 at around 9 a.m. that a helicopter moving wood along Johnstone Strait had crashed.

“The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre was notified and a Search and Rescue team from 442 Comox was dispatched to the scene. Unfortunately, the lone pilot was found deceased,” the release stated.

The RCMP is working alongside the Transportation Safety Board and BC Coroners Service to determine the cause.
