Snowfall warning issued for Coquihalla

Mar 15, 2022 | 11:20 AM

Winter hasn’t run its course for the Coquihalla Highway as of yet.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the high-elevation route, saying 15 to 20 centimetres is expected to fall between Merritt and Hope Tuesday afternoon and evening.

The heavy snow is expected to ease into periodic snowfall overnight.

The weather agency warns that the snow accumulations will “vary dramatically with elevation along the route,” and more than 15 centimetres of snow is expected near the Coquihalla summit.

The heavy snow may reduce visibility along the highway and affect the road surface, and motorists are advised to adjust their driving in preparation for changing conditions.

Drivers are also advised to check conditions at DriveBC before getting behind the wheel.
