Overall COVID-19 vaccination rates stalled out in Vernon and Coldstream

There was no change to the overall vaccination rates for the Vernon/Coldstream health area in the first week of March.

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) reports that, as of Monday, March 7, 85 per cent of area residents aged five and over had received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 81 per cent had received two jabs.

Though the overall rates did not increase, there were gains in the first doses for the 5 to 11; both first and second doses for the 12 to 17 age groups; and the third dose rates for the 50 and over group.

The vaccination rates for Vernon/Coldstream as of Monday were:

  • 5+: 85 per cent (first doses), 81 per cent (second doses)
  • 18+: 88 per cent, 86 per cent
  • 5-11: 47 per cent (+1)
  • 12-17: 85 per cent (+1), 81 per cent (+1)
  • 18-49: 83 per cent, 80 per cent
  • 50+: 92 per cent, 90 per cent, 72 per cent (+1) (third doses)
  • 70+: 81 pre cent (third doses)

Looking at regional breakdowns for first dose coverage within the Interior, Kamloops Centre South had the highest vaccination rates for the 5-11 age group (61 per cent), the 12-17 demographic (91 per cent), the 18-49 group (100 per cent) and 95 per cent coverage for the 50 and over group. The area also had the highest third dose rates for residents aged 50 and over (78 per cent).

Kamloops Centre South became the first health area in the Interior to reach 100 per cent vaccination coverage in any age group.

As of Monday, Kettle Valley had the Interior’s lowest first dose vaccination rates for the 5-11 agre group (23 per cent); the 12-17 age group (49 per cent); and the 50 and over group (78 per cent). Enderby had the lowest vaccination rate in the 18-49 group (66 per cent). The lowest third dose rates for residents aged 50 and over was recorded in Kettle Valley (56 per cent).

  • Armstrong/Spallumcheen: 76 per cent, 73 per cent (+1)
  • North Okanagan/Lumby: 77 per cent, 74 percent
  • Lake Country: 82 per cent, 78 per cent
  • Central Okanagan Rural: 82 per cent, 78 per cent
  • Downtown Kelowna: 91 per cent, 87 per cent (+1)
  • Glenmore: 93 per cent, 89 per cent (+1)
  • Okanagan Mission: 89 per cent, 85 per cent
  • West Kelowna: 86 per cent, 82 per cent
  • Enderby: 71 per cent, 67 per cent
  • Salmon Arm: 80 per cent, 76 per cent
  • Penticton: 88 per cent, 84 per cent
  • Summerland: 86 per cent, 83 per cent
  • Merritt: 80 per cent, 75 per cent
  • Lower Thompson: 81 per cent, 77 per cent
  • Kamloops Centre North: 86 per cent, 81 per cent
  • Kamloops Centre South: 94 per cent, 89 per cent
  • Princeton: 83 per cent, 78 per cent
  • Keremeos: 82 per cent, 78 per cent

As of Monday, 85 per cent of Interior residents aged five and over had received a first dose of a vaccine, while 81 per cent had received two jabs and 48 per cent had received a booster.

Provincially, the vaccination rates for all british Columbians age five and over were recorded at 91 per cent for first doses, 86 per cent for second jabs and 52 per cent for booster shots.
