Water Conservation Measures

Lake Country implementing water restrictions Monday

Apr 30, 2026 | 11:50 AM

The District of Lake Country is bringing in water restrictions after the weekend.

Effective Monday, May 4, the municipality will have Modified Stage 2 Water Restrictions in place, meaning people will only be able to water their lawns, flowers, plants and shrubs twice a week:

  • Addresses ending in 0 – Saturday and Wednesday
  • Addresses ending in 1 -Sunday and Wednesday
  • Addresses ending in 2 – Monday and Saturday
  • Addresses ending in 3 and 4 – Tuesday and Saturday
  • Addresses ending in 5 – Wednesday and Saturday
  • Addresses ending in 6 and 7 – Thursday and Sunday
  • Addresses ending in 8 and 9 – Friday and Sunday

Automatic irrigation will only be allowed between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m., while manual watering will be limited to early morning and evening hours.

Hand-watering with a can or hose with automatic shut-off nozzle will be permitted any time of day, and vegetable gardens can be watered more frequently, and by using a drip irrigation system, but the municipality encourages people to limit their watering time and avoid doing it during the hottest parts of the day to conserve water.

Agricultural properties will have their maximum annual application reduced to 27 inches per acre, and will also be asked to voluntarily reduce their water use by around 10 per cent.

The district said these measures were being put in place as the below-average snowpack and lack of significant spring precipitation had raised concerns about the upland reservoirs not being able to fill ahead of the summer.

The municipality added these early measures and people taking steps to conserve water were intended to help avoid having to put in more restrictive measures later in the summer.
