Winter Carnival looks to help students off to post-secondary education

Local students who have a love for Vernon Winter Carnival are going to get some help with their post secondary finances.

In partnership with The Stor-it Place, Carnival is asking Grade 12 students to submit a short essay about the impact the mid-winter festival has had on their life.

Applications must be submitted by Feb 7 at 5 p.m, and the recipients of the scholarships will be announced Feb 11. Two scholarships in the amount of $500 will be awarded.

Last year more than 19 students applied for the award sharing their personal experiences with Carnival. The essay’s from last years recipients can be found in the VWC brochure available here: https://vernonwintercarnival.com/info/program-brochure

“We love any opportunity to engage our future generations with the festival and to hear how Vernon Winter Carnival has been a part of people’s families and their traditions,” said Vicki Proulx, Carnival’s executive director.

“The Stor-It Place is proud to partner with Vernon Winter Carnival in donating these scholarships to two local Grade 12 students. Investing in our youth’s continued education and the spirit of Vernon Winter Carnival is what community is all about,” said Kim Wallace, General Manager of The Stor-It Place.

The criteria includes submitting 1-2 pages (minimum 500 words). The topics can include:

  • Favourite Vernon Winter Carnival experience
  • Why you think Vernon Winter Carnival is important to our community
  • How Vernon Winter Carnival has impacted traditions in your family

Applications can be submitted by email to info@vernonwintercarnival.com or dropped off at the Vernon Winter Carnival Office – 2401 35 Avenue before Monday Feb 7 at 5 p.m.
