Arrest made in break and enter and vehicle theft case

Jan 5, 2022 | 10:49 AM

A man allegedly responsible for two recent break and enters and theft of a vehicle in Vernon has been arrested.

At approximately 2 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 27th., Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter at a business in the 2700-block of 35th Ave. The suspect stole a vehicle from the business and fled the scene.

The owner of the business had received an alarm notification and was able to watch the event through a live video feed. The information gathered from the tape, including a detailed description of the suspect and the stolen vehicle, was then given to the RCMP.

At around 3 a.m. the stolen vehicle was found abandoned, and a patrolling officer located the suspect, 39-year-old Robert Wayne Lapp, in the 3200-block of 24th Ave. He was arrested safely and without incident.

Mounties say evidence collected during the investigation lead police to suspect Lapp had also been responsible to an earlier break and enter to a business in the 3200-block of 40th Ave.

Lapp is charged with two counts of break and enter and theft. He remains in custody until his next scheduled court appearance on Jan. 6.
