New record for COVID-19 cases in B.C.

British Columbia reported a record of 1,308 new COVID-19 cases on the same day new health orders were announced to limit the spread of the Omicron variant

The province’s previous daily high was 1,283 on April 10, 2021.

There have been 756 cases of the Omicron variant of concern identified in B.C., up from the 302 last Friday.

Of the 1,308 new cases in B.C., 138 were in Interior Health which now has 695 active cases, an increase of 47.

One new death, in Northern Health, has been reported, for an overall total of 2,403.

From Dec. 13-19, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 30.7 per cent of cases. From Dec. 6-19, they accounted for 71.7 per cent of hospitalizations.

As of today, 87.5 per cent of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first vaccine dose, 82.7 per cent have had two doses and 17 per cent (743,778) of eligible adults have got two doses plus a booster shot.
