Today is the first official day of winter, and with that the province is reminding residents to be prepared for winter weather over the holiday season.

A series of strong storms will mix with cold Arctic air throughout B.C. during the holidays, according to Environment Canada, and periods of heavy and blowing snow, freezing rain and very cold weather are likely in many parts of B.C. between now and New Year’s Day.
The province is advising residents to follow directions from local governments and First Nations. In the event of extreme cold temperatures, warming centres may be opened to help protect vulnerable populations. Emergency Management BC will work in partnership with First Nations and local governments to respond quickly to changing weather conditions.
