Collision on Hwy 1

One person sent to hospital after second serious collision near Tappen

Oct 5, 2021 | 5:30 PM

Just hours after a serious motor vehicle collision left one person dead outside a Shuswap community, a second collision in the same area sent a person to hospital.

Salmon Arm RCMP said officers responded to reports of a collision on the Trans Canada Highway near the intersection of James Road just north of Tappen at around 5:20 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 4.

The highway needed to be closed for a second time that day in order to investigate the collision.

Mounties say a white SUV had been travelling west on Highway 1 in a passing lane and was passing another westbound vehicle when it crossed the centre line and collided head on with an eastbound vehicle.

The driver of the SUV was treated and released at the scene, but the driver of the other vehicle was taken to Shuswap Lakes General Hospital with serious injuries.

Neither vehicles involved in the collision were carrying passengers.

The RCMP continues to investigate this case, and anyone who witnessed or has dash cam footage of the collision is asked to contact the Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044.
