Murder suspect makes another court appearance

A North Okanagan murder suspect has not given notice that he intends to seek bail, according to the B.C. Prosecution Service.

Jevon Daniel Smith, 46, is charged with the second degree murder of Dakota Samoleski, whose body was found on the 4500 block of Back Enderby Road in Spallumcheen on Sept. 20.

Smith was in Vernon provincial court Monday for a bail hearing, and his case was put over to Oct. 25 to give him time to consult a lawyer. If he does seek bail, the hearing would be in a higher court because it is a murder charge.

“No bail hearing was held. That would have to be in B.C. Supreme Court. We have received no notice of a bail application,” said Dan McLaughlin, communications counsel with the B.C. Prosecution Service.
