Interior Health sees 350 new COVID-19 cases Friday

Interior Health (IH) is now home to 2,190 active COVID-19 cases, as 350 were recorded in the health region Friday.

That’s up from the 271 cases on Thursday.

The new cases were part of 867 across B.C., and there are now 5,657 active cases in the province.

The number of British Columbians hospitalized due to COVID-19 rose to 159 Friday, and 84 of those people are in intensive care.

Three new deaths linked to the virus were reported Friday, all of which came from the Interior Health region. A total of 1,807 British Columbians have now died due to COVID-19.

The provincial first dose vaccination rate for residents 12 and over rose to 83.9 per cent Friday, and the second dose rate is now 75.8 per cent.

The province is reporting that between August 19 and 25, a total of 4,368 new cases were recorded in B.C. Of those cases, 3,116, or 71.3 per cent, were people who had not received a vaccination; 467, or 10.7 per cent, were partially vaccinated; 18 per cent, or 785, were double-dosed.

The province also reports there were 213 hospitalizations between August 12 and 25. Of those hospitalizations, 79.3 per cent, or 169, were unvaccinated individuals; 14, or 6.6 per cent, were partially vaccinated; 30, or 14.1 per cent, were people who had received both jabs.
