Plans to open outdoor skating rink put on ice
The COVID-19 guidelines have put an end to hopes of using the outdoor skating rink in Lavington this winter.
The Lavington Community Association (LCA) announced on Friday, after discussions with agencies like Interior Health, the District of Coldsteam and its insurance company, they decided to not open the popular facility in Jeffers Park which had a new roof added last month after a Raise The Roof fundraiser.
The association’s executive and directors said on social media, the decision was made with “heavy hearts.”
“It is tremendously disappointing for the LCA to take this step, given the outpouring of generosity from local government, businesses, and residents to get the roof over the ice surface built in December. However, due to provincial COVID restrictions and a concern for public health, the LCA has reluctantly made the decision not to put the ice in this season,” the posting stated.
