BCHL products ready for new NHL season

Jan 13, 2021 | 2:37 PM

More than two dozen BC Hockey League products are listed on NHL rosters as the league returns to action tonight after a 107-day off-season.

One significant change to roster formats this season is that each team is able to carry a taxi squad of five players who will practice and travel with the team, but not count toward the 23-man roster.

Twenty-six (26) of the former BCHLers made the cut for the 23-man rosters, five are included on taxi squads and Detroit Red Wings defenceman and Trail Smoke Eaters alum Danny DeKeyser will start the season on injured reserve.

The Red Wings feature the most BCHL content with four players on their roster, although two are on the taxi squad and DeKeyser is injured.

The Anaheim Ducks and the Nashville Predators both have three former BCHL players on their active 23-man roster.

The Vancouver Canucks have one BCHL product: Jordie Benn who played for the Victoria Grizzlies.

Other BCHL alums that were at NHL training camps were either sent down to the minors or released from their pro tryout contract.
