Police still looking for wanted man

A man at the centre of a police standoff earlier this month in Vernon is still at large.

The RCMP’s emergency response team surrounded a house on Brooks Lane Aug. 19, looking for 30-year-old Robert Gordon Heltman who is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for violating his day parole.

The incident ended several hours later after heavily-armed officers entered the home and found no one there.

“Heltman has not been located by police yet,” Cpl. Tania Finn, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media relations, told Vernon Matters.

Police seized a loaded handgun from the residence during the investigation, and said at the time, Heltman has ties to the Okanagan.
