UPDATE 6:43 p.m.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP have confirmed a pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle on the highway through Vernon.

“On August 14 at approximately 3:43 pm, a pedestrian was struck while J-walking near the intersection of Highway 97 (32nd Street) and 30th Ave. Vernon.  RCMP Collision Analysts and the BC Coroners Service are currently on scene at this time,” said Cpl. Tania Finn, media relations officer.

Finn said as the investigation into the incident is ongoing, no further information will be released.

Traffic is moving slowly on the highway through Vernon after a serious incident.

A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the 3000 block of 32nd Street (Highway 97) around 3:40 p.m. Friday (Aug. 14).

“Traffic has been reduced to single lane both north and southbound. If possible, motorists should use an alternative route to travel north-south. RCMP are still on scene and are investigating,” said Christy Poirier, communications manager with the City of Vernon.
