Pot Shops Not Welcome
You won’t see marijuana dispensaries setting up in Armstrong.
Council there has heard a proposal from Starbuds Canada to allow dispensaries selling products made out of marijuana, such as oils.
Mayor Chris Pieper says that’s a no-go.
“Our bylaw states that we are not allowed to sell any illegal products, and if the federal government makes them legal, I’m sure they will be in drug stores and every other business in town,” says Pieper.
Pieper says the city could control where sales would be allowed through bylaws, but for now it’s a dead issue, and they will wait to see what Ottawa does.
“The actual marijuana itself, we would have to figure out how to meet federal rules, and I’m sure they will bring out a criteria where they can establish retail sales.”
