Double fatal crash on highway

Jul 7, 2020 | 11:14 AM

Two people in a car died after colliding with a transport truck near Revelstoke on Sunday afternoon.

RCMP say a westbound Honda Accord was coming out of a curve and lost control, swerving into the path of the oncoming semi, 15 kilometres east of Revelstoke.

“The driver of the commercial truck was unable to avoid the collision,” said Sgt. Chad Badry of West Kootenay Traffic Services. “A RCMP member of Trans Canada East Traffic Services happened to be parked off the highway observing traffic just west of the incident and witnessed the collision. He was able to respond within seconds and alert other emergency responders.”

The adult male driver of the car and a male passenger died at the scene.

“The driver of the commercial truck was not physically injured and was able to provide police with dash cam video from his vehicle,” said Badry. “Further details of the deceased are not available as police complete next of kin notification.”

The highway was closed for about four hours while police completed their scene examination and the highway was cleared.

The weather and road conditions were described as excellent at the time. The RCMP will continue to determine if there were any other factors that contributed to the crash.
