Community partners honoured for tireless work

Kelowna’s Gospel Mission is hosting its 10th annual Well Done Barbecue Wednesday (June 17) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event, in the mission’s back parking lot on Leon Avenue, will acknowledge and honour community partners for their tireless work in supporting Kelowna’s most vulnerable despite facing unprecedented challenges this year.

“I can’t think of a better way to meet our fellow service providers than over a burger at the Well Done BBQ! I am thankful to Chris and his team for working so hard to put on this important event that expresses our gratitude to such astounding people who serve our community so diligently,” said Gospel Mission executive director Carmen Rempel.

“2020 has presented unprecedented challenges. This event celebrates Kelowna’s first responders who serve bravely in protecting our community and those most vulnerable. We thank Interior Health for ingenuity and creativity in providing continual care, Kelowna’s many outreach providers that meet people where they are at and municipal and provincial government entities who work tirelessly in finding creative solutions to overly complex issues. During these times we have seen many service providers stepping up to the plate and a great increase in communication and cooperation with all service providers in Kelowna,” said Gospel Mission caseworker manager Chris Moffat.

A barbecue lunch with all the fixings will be served by mission case workers and new executive director Carmen Rempel.

This year they have improvised a safe and “on the go” experience. They will be set up in the alley behind the mission at 251 Leon Ave. for drive-by or walk up service and will be wearing masks and gloves and observing physical distancing.
