North Okanagan RCMP flooded an area of rural Armstrong Sunday in response to a high risk incident involving a distraught male.

On June 7, shortly after 5 p.m., officers went to a property on the 3100 block of Otter Lake Road where the man was allegedly armed with firearms and threatening to hurt himself and others.

“Given the threat to public and personal safety, a large police response was elicited to the area which was cordoned off by numerous officers,” said Const. Kelly Brett, RCMP spokesperson. “Once on scene, members were able to identify who was in the home and determine the male appeared to be highly agitated and a risk to public and police safety.”

After some time, the man left his residence wielding a metal object and uttering threats, said Brett.

“Numerous resources were engaged during this incident and in an effort to de-escalate the situation safely, the male was apprehended by the RCMP K9 unit and safely secured by officers.”

Brett said a 41-year-old Armstrong man was held in custody to face numerous charges of uttering threats to cause death and possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose.

He was later released on conditions after a court appearance.
