Rescue crew comes to aid of injured biker in park
Vernon Fire Rescue Services came to the rescue of a 71-year-old mountain biker who crashed while riding down a trail in Ellison Park Thursday afternoon.
The crash took place about 6 kilometres down the trail from the parking lot.
“A total of seven firefighters (including one off-duty) assisted the patient by using a spine board, basket stretcher and a fat tire wheel to transport her to an ambulance at the parking lot,” said Christy Poirier, communications manager with the city. “The fat tire is a new addition to the VFRS toolkit, and greatly helped with today’s event.”
Poirier added the on-duty captain said the patient was transported to the hospital by BC Ambulance Service with unconfirmed injuries, but seemed to be in good spirits.
