Mandatory High Heels Cut Short

Apr 7, 2017 | 11:56 AM

The provincial government has followed through with its commitment to ban mandatory high heels in the workplace.

It says the requirement to wear high heels in some workplaces is a health and safety issue with risks of falling or slipping and causing injury.

Jobs Minister Shirley Bond has announced a change to the footwear section of the Occupational Health and Safety regulation under the Workers Compensation Act.

The amendment ensures that workplace footwear is of a design, construction and material that allows a person to safely perform their duties and ensures that employers connot require footwear contrary to the standard.

WorkSafeBC is to develop guidelines by the end of this month.
