UPDATE: Falkland Stampede rescheduled

UPDATE

The 102nd annual Falkland Stampede has been rescheduled for late summer.

Organizers announced on social media the event normally held on the May long weekend will instead be from August 28-30 in the small community northwest of Vernon.

“August is the new May, we have postponed the 102nd Falkland Stampede to August 28th, 29th, and 30th,” said the posting.

“This change brings something new to Falkland, a rodeo under the lights. Friday, August 28th will be an evening rodeo performance with a dance to follow. Saturday and Sunday will continue as daytime performances along with the traditional Sunday parade. More details to come and we look forward to seeing all of our fans, sponsors, and contestants in August.”

The Falkland Stampede looks like it will be the latest community event to be impacted by the Covid outbreak.

Stampede manager Melissa Seaman told Vernon Matters they are making alternate plans for their 102nd annual event which is normally held on the May long weekend in the community northwest of Vernon.

“We are currently working on a possible new date later in the summer for the stampede as it does not seem likely we will be able to proceed with our May dates. When we have finalized the details we will provide a press release,” she said.

The Interior Provincial Exhibition is still moving forward with planning for its fair in September in Armstrong, and they are following Covid developments closely.

“We are remaining hopeful we will be able to have our fair. It’s really a week by week view at this point,” general manager Yvonne Paulson told Vernon Matters.

The 121st annual IPE is scheduled for Sept 2-6.

Earlier this week, organizers of the 65th annual Lumby Days announced the event was cancelled for this year due to the coronavirus.
