B.C Covid update: 45 new cases and five more deaths; two new cases in Interior Health

There were 45 new COVID-19 cases in British Columbia in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 1,336 since the outbreak began.

In the Interior Health region, there is two new cases so it moves up to 130.

The number of fatalities grew by 5 to 48 in B.C.

There are 135 people in hospital with 61 in intensive care, both those numbers are down from yesterday.

A total of 838 patients have fully recovered and are no longer in isolation.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry talked about how B.C. is stepping up enforcement at Vancouver Airport and land border crossings. That includes making sure people have the means to do what they need to do according to the self-isolation plan that they will provide to border and provincial agents.

Victoria and Ottawa will be setting up a facility for people who cannot care for themselves. They will also be doing regular checks to ensure compliance for those who are self isolating to make sure they have what they need.

Dr. Henry reiterated that we need to stay at home this coming long weekend and stay away from small and remote communities that simply don’t have the capability to deal with a large outbreak.

Heading out, she says, could jeopardize our firewall and this is not the time to let up.
