B.C. Covid update: 63 new cases; one new death

Apr 6, 2020 | 2:06 PM

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there are signs the measures British Columbia is taking to prevent the spread of Covid-19 are working.

There are 63 new cases in the province since Saturday, bringing the total to 1,266.

In the Interior Health region there have been no new cases since Saturday for a total of 128.

The number of fatalities grew by one to 39 in B.C., after a man in his 40’s died.

There are 140 people in hospital and 72 are in intensive care.

And 783 patients have fully recovered.

Dr. Henry reported another outbreak at a correctional facility, with two cases at a federal prison in Mission.

She said we are in the middle of the critical weeks and we must be steadfast in our efforts to hold the line.  The percentage of new cases is slowing as shows that what we are doing is working.

“That’s testament to the effort that everybody in British Columbia has been making the past few weeks, but we must keep that firewall strong,” stated Henry.

Henry added that is anxiety is starting to become a problem, it could be a good idea to talk to your doctor, virtually, if you have one.

There are a couple of websites where there is good information available:  anxietycanada.com  and  bouncebackbc.ca

Dr. Henry added that she was part of a decision announced by federal health officer Dr. Tam, that said it was okay to wear a mask in certain situations, but they should not be medical ones that health care workers need and we need to keep social distancing.

Health Minister Adrian Dix said the province continues to receive supplies of personal protective equipment.  They are currently testing a batch of masks they received as they did not come from a usual source.
