Concern About Rail Trail Vandals

Apr 7, 2017 | 7:45 AM

The Okanagan Rail Trail hasn’t even officially opened – and already there are vandalism concerns.

Greater Vernon Advisory Committee director Jim Garlick says there have been a couple of incidents at the Coldstream end of the trail.

“(Someone has been) pulling the blocks out of the way, the concrete blocks that have been put in the way to obstruct people from going down the trail. These are large blocks that if you want to move them, you chain something up, a vehicle up to them and pull them out of the way.”

Garlick says he would like to see the regional district find a way to take action against vandals

“I think we need to deal with those, to keep that from occurring anymore. And I want us to go to our ticketing process here. I’d like to talk about enforcement with staff.”

Garlick says there has also been problems with fires being started along the trail, some of which he feels is connected to partying.
