BC reports 86 new COVID-19 cases since Saturday for 970 total; now 94 in Interior Health

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there were 86 new COVID-19 cases in the province since the last update on Saturday, bringing the total to 970.

In the Interior Health District there were an additional 17 for a total of 94.

The number of fatalities grew by two to 19.

A total of 469 patients have fully recovered.

There are 106 people in hospital, 60 are in intensive care.

There are six people in hospital in the Interior Health region.

Nineteen hospitals in the province are now prepared to take care of COVID-19 patients including Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton.

Dr. Henry said the next two weeks will be a watershed as far as incubation goes, and what we are doing as a province is making a difference, and we need to keep our distance but keep in touch with each other as we go ahead.

She said the order prohibiting social gatherings of more than 50 people doesn’t mean you can have a house party with 49 guests. Small groups inside and out can still be a problem, so again, social distancing must be maintained.

Health Minister Adrian Dix said the province was suspending pay parking at all HEALTH AUTHORITY owned and operated parking lots as of April 1^st. So check where you are parking.

As for personal protective equipment, he said the province is still receiving supplies from various sources, including 1 million surgical masks just today.
