The Chief Public Health officer of Canada has outlined who should be getting tested for COVID-19.
Dr. Teresa Tam says 34,000 Canadians have been tested so far.
As far as who needs to be tested, she says the groups include: returning travelers who have symptoms, anyone with severe respiratory illness like pneumonia regardless of whether they have traveled, long term care facilities where there are symptoms and health care workers who are sick.
Dr. Tam says they are trying to be careful with people that may have mild symptoms that have not traveled and it should be up to clinicians to decide whether a test is necessary.
