New grant helps post-secondary students

Feb 28, 2020 | 2:25 PM

The B.C. government has announced a new grant to make college or university education more affordable.

Students who qualify will be eligible for up to $4,000 a year through the B.C. Access Grant program, which for the first time, will be available to students taking programs under two years in length, and to part-time students.

The grant will be targeted to low- and middle-income students, who can use the funds to pay for tuition, textbooks, or living expenses.

“The new B.C. Access Grant will break down financial barriers and enable thousands more students to get a college or university education in their chosen fields,” Premier John Horgan said. “It’s part of our government’s work to build a strong economy for everyone, where people can get good, well-paying jobs that support them and their families, and business can access more skilled workers.”
