Missing Man May Have Died

Apr 3, 2017 | 1:50 PM

The search continues in the Lumby area for a missing man, who police say may have died.

RCMP say 57 year old Bruce Van Hasstrecht is a seasonal resident of Mabel Lake.

Lumby RCMP attended a seasonal residence in the 3500 block of Mabel Lake Rd on Saturday, in efforts to confirm the whereabouts of Van Hasstrecht, who resides permanently in Alberta.

“As result of police findings at the scene, RCMP activated the Vernon Search and Rescue Team along with an RCMP Police Dog team, who conducted a ground Search on Saturday and Sunday with negative results,” says Cpl. Dan Moskaluk. “Search resources also included the support of the RCMP Southeast District Air Services helicopter.”

Moskaluk says investigators did find evidence Van Hasstrecht was at the lake’s edge at one point prior to his disappearance.

“At this time Bruce Van Hasstrecht is considered as missing, however police suspect he may have entered the lake and perished,” says Moskaluk.

A search effort of Mabel Lake will resume once the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team arrives in Lumby.
