The 2020 class for the BC Hockey Hall of Fame includes former Vancouver Canucks defenceman Mattias Ohlund and Vernon-born NHL defenceman Eric Brewer, a member of Canada’s 2002 Olympic gold medal winning team.
The former Western Hockey League Kootenay Ice team that won the 2002 Memorial Cup for Cranbrook — and the BC Hockey League’s Penticton Vees that had 54 wins in 60 games in 2011-2012 — are the team’s that will be inducted this year.
Long-time BCHL, WHL and NHL official Jay Sharrers and BC Junior B’ hockey builder Ray Stonehouse are also named — with the ceremony to be held July 24 at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton.
The Kootenay Ice relocated from Cranbook to Winnipeg prior to the current WHL season.
