Independent Investigations Office deployed after man dies in officer-involved shooting
The province’s police watchdog has been called in after an officer-involved shooting led to the death of a man in Tappen.
The Independent Investigations Office says the shooting happened Tuesday after officers attempted to apprehend a male following property damage complaints.
According to a B.C RCMP news release, Salmon Arm RCMP officers were called to a home in Tappen following a property damage complaint. When police arrived they found the suspect in a neighboring property. Officers called off the arrest citing a high-risk.
The Emergency Response Team was called in to set up a perimeter. After getting a warrant, officers deployed a chemical agent in an effort to force the man to leave the home.
