DVA rep moves to role with First Nation

From the DVA — to a local First Nation.

Dudley Coulter is leaving the Downtown Vernon Association after two-and-a-half years as marketing and events coordinator, and will take on a new role as communications specialist with the Splatsin band in Enderby.

“It will be sad not to work downtown anymore. I think I’ve built a lot of strong relationships with local businesses, and I do value that. I’ll be taking that with me to my next role,” Coulter told Vernon Matters.

Coulter, who is known as ‘Downtown Dudley,’ lists the Sunshine Festival and Summer Concert Series as highlights over his term with the business group.

“The Sunshine Festival has hit a few records since I’ve been here, notably the vendor attendance has really increased the last few years. I think that event will continue to grow. Obviously we’ve cancelled the Light Up for this year, but what we have in mind to replace it will be even better,” he said, but could not provide further details.

In his new full-time job which starts next week, Coulter will be working in media relations for Splatsin, developing a communications plan to raise the profile of the band locally and regionally.

“They haven’t had this position before,” he added.

Coulter will keep his ties to downtown, as he is becoming a co-owner of Triumph Coffee.

“This is all kind of happening at the same time. I’m looking forward to that. It will keep me downtown every other day kind of thing.”

The DVA is currently recruiting for a new events and marketing coordinator.

Coulter will also serve as chief of media for the Ski Nationals at the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre March 25 to April 2, 2020.
