Power outages affected Vernon, Armstrong, Enderby

Update: Hydro working on outages

Dec 31, 2019 | 10:52 AM

BC Hydro says almost 30,000 customers were left without power in the North Okanagan, Shuswap and Thompson regions following last night’s heavy and wet snowfall.

In the North Okanagan Tuesday morning, there were at least two major outages.

One outage affected 1,335 customers in the Armstrong-Enderby area.

BC Hydro blamed the snowstorm for the outage east of Salmon River Road and north of Otter Lake Cross Road.

Just under 400 customers in Enderby and Spallumcheen were still without power late Tuesday afternoon.

Another outage, in Vernon’s north end around 8 a.m., lasted about 90 minutes and knocked out traffic lights and power to some of the big box stores.

More than 1,700 customers were affected.

Hydro also reported extensive outages in the other two regions affected, including in Chase, Sorrento, Salmon Arm and then up to Kamloops and 100 Mile House.

“Crews are responding as quickly as possible to restore power to the affected customers,” a statement on BC Hydro’s website said. “Individual restoration updates will be provided as soon as they are available.

“If you see a fallen power line, stay back at least 10 metres and call 911 to report.”

By midday, the number of customers affected by outages was closer to 18,000.
