The Vernon Vipers have placed goaltender Max Palaga on the long term injured reserve list.

The 19-year-old Kamloops product suffered the injury in a game against Merritt on Oct. 11.

“This type of hip injury will require a number of months of rehabilitation before it is back to where Max needs it,” Vipers Head Coach and GM Jason McKee said.

Palaga was a strong asset for the team early in the season, starting the first 10 in a row.

The netminder posted a goals against average of 2.77 and a save percentage of .899.

Palaga will be eligible to return next season for his final year of junior hockey.

The team has two goalies, Reilly Herbst and James Porter Jr., who will continue to play this season.

“The Vipers would like to wish Max all the best in his recovery and look forward to seeing him back next season,” a statement on the Vipers’ website said.

In a short statement Thursday afternoon, the Vipers’ organization also announced defenseman Brendan Kim had been traded to the Surrey Eagles for future considerations.
