Update 1:40 p.m.

RCMP say the registered owner of the pick-up truck involved in a double fatal collision in Kamloops Sunday morning has been located and subsequently arrested.

“RCMP’s investigation is in its infancy, this man’s involvement in the collision is still under investigation,” said an RCMP news release.

First Avenue is still closed and is expected to remain closed for most of Sunday.

Kamloops RCMP is still asking for any witnesses to the collision to come forward. Specifically, police would like to talk to a female who was on foot at the scene and left shortly after the accident occurred

Emergency crews in Kamloops responded to an early morning vehicle incident in the city’s downtown today (Nov. 3), with multiple people injured.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Captain Troy Grant says they were called to the corner of First Avenue and Battle Street just before 2 a.m.

“Upon arrival, we found a two vehicle collision,” Grant says, “Kamloops Fire Rescue was first on scene, and ambulance and RCMP arrived shortly thereafter. On scene were found four victims from the one car. It appears that one or possibly two drivers from the other vehicle had fled the scene.”

RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says two of the occupants were found dead upon arrival on scene, while the other two suffered life-threatening, and non-life threatening injuries.

Crews were on scene for about an hour and a half, and Grant says the injured parties were taken to hospital after receiving medical treatment on scene.

RCMP are continuing to investigate the cause, and Shelkie says police will need some public cooperation.

“As we continue our investigation, 1st Avenue will be closed between Seymour Street and Nicola Street. As well as Battle Street is closed from 2nd Avenue to Lee Road,” Shelkie explains, “Our investigators could take most of the day to investigate this scene, so we ask motorists to avoid this area and take alternate routes.”

Shelkie says the driver of the pick-up truck involved had left the scene, and police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them.

She adds, if you were the driver of the pick-up or have any information about the driver, call 250-828-3000.
