Street Sweeping Underway in Vernon
The spring clean-up of streets around Vernon is underway.
Public works manager James Rice says the street sweepers started a couple weeks later than normal due to the longer winter.
“It usually goes from about 4 to 6 weeks. We start on sidewalks and arterial roads first and then move into residential areas following that.”
Rice says the sweeping machines are in the first week of activity.
“We know it has an impact, and we run our crews seven days a week, as well as contractors, to get this cleaned up as quickly as possible.”
Rice says the public needs to do their part to help them get the job done quickly and efficiently.
“The biggest thing you can do as a home owner is when you see the spring sweeping signs show up in your neighborhood, if possible, move your vehicles off the roadway so we can clean it up and do a good job.”
Rice says given the impact on air quality, the sweepers are running continually to get the job done as quickly as possible.
