BE Prepared for Emergency

Be Prepared for An Emergency

May 6, 2019 | 1:28 PM

Emergency Preparedness Week is underway in B.C., where residents are urged to plan ahead to help protect loved ones and reduce stress during an emergency.

That includes making a plan, such as knowing the hazards in your area, compiling a kit with a grab and go bag, and building resiliency in their homes and communities.

“The best way to keep safe in the event of an emergency is to ensure your household is ready in advance,” says Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General. “PreparedBC has the resources British Columbians need to get started on making plans that will help them cope through the initial stages of any emergency.”

Residents are asked to focus on three key areas as they prepare:

1. know the hazards in your local area;

2. make a plan to help keep focused and safe during an emergency; and

3. build an emergency kit and assemble grab-and-go bags.

The Alert Ready system will be tested in B.C. this Wednesday at 1:55 p.m., which will be sent to wireless devices and broadcast on radio and TV.

PreparedBC is a one-stop shop for disaster readiness information.
