Food Recovery Program Ready For Launch
The Vernon Salvation Army will launch its Food Recovery program on Monday.
Lt. Stefan Reid says the partnership with Save On Foods will provide more food to the community and mean less food waste going into the landfill.
Reid says their staff will pick-up about 60 bins of produce, meat, dairy and other items from the two local stores daily, which will be sorted and re-purposed for use by the food bank, community partners, compost and local farmers.
Reid tells Beach Radio News the food given away by the stores is classified as non-sellable.
