What You Need To Know About Urban Beekeeping

Vernon and area residents are invited to learn more about urban beekeeping, which the City is now encouraging with new bylaws.

The Sustainable Environment Network Society is hosting a free event on the topic at 7 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at the Schubert Centre at 3505 30th Avenue.

Heather Clay from the Urban Bee Network will talk about getting started in beekeeping, the equipment you will need, and how to be a good beekeeper neighbor.

“Also meet Vernon’s bee inspector Stephanie Taylor and the president of the beekeeper’s association Keith Rae,” says SENS Director Jane Weixl.

Most properties in Vernon are able to have up to four beehives in their backyards, under bylaw changes approved by city council.
