Future of Farmland For Food Focus of Vernon Meeting

The former chair of BC’s Agricultural Land Commission will be in Vernon to talk about preserving farmland for food.

Richard Bullock is a long time farmer and Kelowna orchardist, who will also talk about changes to the A-L-R and take questions.

He will be a guest of the Sustainable Environment Network Society (SENS) at their meeting at 7 pm Thursday Mar. 28 at the Schubert Centre.

“Richard will start with a bit of history and new changes to the ALR then open the evening up for YOU. Bring your concerns, comments, and questions,” says a release from SENS.

“What are you most worried about in regards to the future of our farmland? Pavement on ALR land? Food land for locals or for international export? Huge houses or fill on ALR land? SENS invites you to join in this community conversation about our present and future use and protection of local food land.”

Bullock has also served as President of the BC Fruit Growers Association, BC Tree Fruits Ltd. and Sunrype Products Ltd, and as a Director of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture.

SENS will hold a short 5 to 10 minute AGM preceding the event.
