Could Canada Day Fireworks make a return to Polson Park ? Quite possibly.

He says they are looking at ways to enhance the event and are hoping to bring in more entertainment leading up to the fireworks.

“A lot of times people are setting up at each of the locations and there are people sort of gathering, and it is difficult to sort of enhance that,” he said, adding that Kin Beach doesn’t have the infrastructure needed to have entertainment like a band.

The move would also save man power and make the experience easier on those celebrating, he argued.

“Having the show there, it saves a lot of time a lot of man power because we are not having to break down the show at 4 p.m., we can actually carry on, and if the weather is nice and people are enjoying themselves, people really don’t want to leave, and then having to usher people out, it gets a bit awkward,” he said.

Frost also told council that safety shouldn’t be much of an issue because there is as much risk doing them on the water as on the land.

“There’s still risks with having them over water. The only thing you are eliminating is, the ground immediately underneath you is not flammable, but having the show over water actually has additional risks and costs that aren’t really adding to the show.”

Frost said that the fireworks on Kin Beach almost didn’t go off two years in a row because of the weather.

City Staff will provide a report back to council at the next meeting.

There was an incident involving a spectator being hit by a firework in Polson Park a number of years ago.
