Seismic Festival Opens At Silver Star

As an investigation continues into an injury causing avalanche at Silver Star, the resort is expected to be a busy place with a new event.

The Seismic Spring Mountain Festival got underway today and runs for 10 days, until March 31.

It features sporting events like slopestyle, boarderstyle, and frost bike, along with culinary and culture events.

“We are so excited to showcase our amazing mountain for locals and the many tourists who will be up here for SEISMIC,” says Chantelle Deacon, Silver Star’s media relations manager. “This festival is for everyone, families, friends, everyone will enjoy themselves.”

The Putnam Creek side of the mountain, where a slide came down on a double black diamond run Wednesday, remains closed as avalanche consultants investigate the incident and asses resort wide snow conditions.

A 42 year old man was injured but there been no update on his condition due to privacy reasons.

There was also a second avalanche a couple hours later Wednesday, on a black diamond run under the gondola on the “face” side of the mountain, with no one hurt.
