Climate heroes wanted

The Okanagan Basin Water Board is asking young people to do their part to improve the water and the environment.

They have launched their 7th annual Okanagan WaterWise youth challenge to celebrate Canada Water Week and UN World Water day.

“Young people are increasingly aware of the extreme weather events we are experiencing, from historic flooding that threaten homes and close beaches to repeated droughts that require conservation to ensure enough water for food production and returning salmon,” said Okanagan Basin Water Board Communications Director Corinne Jackson, in a press release statement.

The board says this year’s theme is based on the documentary “Beyond Climate.”

The film is narrated by David Suzuki and  was recently screened by the board in partnership with UBC Okanagan.

It features Okanagan residents and showcases the effect of climate change on communities.

Participants are encouraged to clean wetlands, creeks and beaches and send in any photos, or videos to the board to get entered in to win prizes.

Kids are also encouraged to join the popular #trashtag movement sweeping the world.
