Overdose Deaths Decline

The first report of 2019 on illicit drug overdose deaths in BC suggests the number of deaths may be slowing.

The BC Coroners Service says there were 90 suspected overdose fatalities in January, down 22% from December (116), and 40 fewer than the 130 in January 2018.

Three of the OD fatalities in January were in Vernon, 3 in Kelowna and 2 were in Kamloops.

The number of deaths equates to 2.9 overdose deaths per day in BC.
