Planes Grounded, Travellers Face Disruptions

Canadian travellers who have flights booked on Boeing 737 Max 8’s are facing disruptions after Canada joined the list of countries grounding the planes.

Transport Minister Marc Garneau says he made the decision based  on information he received today from satellite tracking data that indicates a possible similarity between the Ethiopian Airlines flight that crashed Sunday, and a Lion Air Max 8 that crashed off Indonesia in October.

The grounding order means the jets are not allowed to fly into, out of, or over Canada — effective immediately.

Westjet has a daily flight from the Kelowna Airport to Calgary or Toronto using Max 8’s, and Sunwing has also used the planes for Kelowna flights.
