“The males returned home and albeit cold, did not sustain any other injuries as a result of the incident,” says RCMP Cst. Kelly Brett.

Honigman says the men were lucky to survive the incident, given the weather, and the fact they weren’t prepared to spend the night outdoors.

“With these temperatures, it is so critical that people go out expecting to be longer than just during the daylight hours. They need to be protected and equipped to spend the night or 24 hours out there if something comes up,” says Honigman, who is also featured in this audio clip below.

RCMP are thanking the search volunteers for their dedication in difficult conditions.

“Our community is fortunate to have an amazing group of highly trained volunteers who venture out into some of the worst conditions to preserve the life of others when they find themselves in dire situations,” says Brett.
