Feb 28, 2019 | 2:29 PM

The Rotary Club of Kalamalka handed out their annual Vocational Service award on Thursday, and this year the man behind a popular dining destination at the Village Green Mall was the recipient.

Gerran Thorhaug, the owner and operator of Browns Socialhouse picked up the award for his efforts serving the community.

His restaurant has sponsored Kalamalka Rotary’s Starfish Pack Program, initiatives with the Upper Room Mission and has done work with the Shriner’s Club.

He has also organized a toy and pajama drive, and provided gift certificates to those who also give back to the community.

“Me and my wife Sierra, we feel that we are very lucky to be where we are in our lives and it is just nice to give back to the community again,” said Thorhaug.

“The community supports us in both of our small businesses and we are more than happy to give back,” he said.

The award celebrates people working in all vocations and recognizes professional achievement and ethical standards.
