Watch : Special Olympics opening ceremonies draws excitement

Hundreds of athletes marched their way through Kal Tire Place on Thursday night for the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics B.C Winter Games .

Athletes from all over the province came to participate and even a team from Alberta made it to the games.

Attendees listened to several speakers including Vernon Mayor Victor Cumming who welcomed the athletes to the city and offered some sound advice.

The excitement continued for the lighting of the brand new Special Olympics cauldron.

 

The BC Special Olympics Winter Games announced Wednesday that the cauldron is built in Vernon and will be used for B.C Special Olympics games for years to come.

 

Competition starts today and ends on Saturday.
