Update: Community Has No Gas For Another Week

People won’t be able to buy gasoline in Falkland for another week, meaning the closest gas is a station in Monte Lake, or further away in Vernon, Kamloops or Salmon Arm.

The community between Vernon and Kamloops only has one station, a Petro-Canada, which regional district director Rene Talbot says has been closed for renovations since Tuesday.

Talbot says the owner earlier had hoped to reopen Saturday afternoon, but that’s now been pushed back to Friday March 1.

“Originally it was only going to be for three days, but once you start tearing an old building apart, things change,” Talbot tells Beach Radio News. “I know a lot of people are coming through Falkland, and they are low on gas.”
