Okanagan student groups thrilled over decision to eliminate loan interest
It has been something student unions across B.C have been fighting for years, ending interest on student loans . Now, thanks to the provincial government’s announcement on budget day , it is a fight now ending in victory.
” It is just really nice that they actually listened , ” said Okanagan College Student’s Union Executive Chairperson Chantelle Bishop
” Students across B.C have sent over 20,000 emails to finance Minister Carol James and B.C used to have the highest interest rate in all of Canada, so it is a great relief,” she adds.
Our government is delivering on our commitment to eliminate interest from all BC student loans, effective today. Instead of worrying about growing debt, students can focus on learning and graduates can concentrate on their future. #BCBudget pic.twitter.com/hfZ23DsHdP
